Battery recommendation

Folks recently had a battery issue with 64 ford 2000 gas tractor that has been converted to 12 volt. I'm working through but end state will be getting a new battery. Question is which size (other than one that what fits battery tray). I've read a few comments saying group 26 or group 35 w/reversed terminals. Had another feller tell me group 24. Question is one better/worse than the other? Don't want to go under power and wear out batt but don't want more than I need. I'm sure I'm making more of this than needed but $80 vs $160 is money for something else so recommendations/advise on size and brand would be appreciated. To note I do plan on running all gauges with tractor.

Rule of thumb would be CID X 2 to 3 = CCA, so even 400 CCA should be more than adequate do the job. That being said, there's certainly no harm in going BIGGER!

yeah I have no clue what all that means other than "go bigger".

Yes there is. Weight when you install it can be quite different and the amount it lightens you wallet can be too. That isn't a bit engine and it isn't diesel. The smaller will be fine.

A 1964 Ford 2000 Gas Model, has a 134 CID (Cubic Inch Displacement). Using the above rule of thumb would indicate a 400 CCA battery (3 x 134 = 402).

Batteries are rated in terms of CCA (Cold Cranking Amperes) and CA (Cranking Amperes). For the CCA rating the test is conducted with the battery at 0 degrees F and for the CA rating the battery is at 32 degress F. CCA and CA are measures of the battery's power, not the size. The CCA rating with always be lower than the CA since battery power drops with temperature.

To your question: What the above means is, any battery that fits (fills the space provided) will most likely be greater than 400 CCA and start the tractor fine.

I use auto zone batteries, I buy the largest size battery that will fit in the battery box of my TO35 Ferguson,

These batteries are US made and they are open 7 days a week if I need service,

I always ask for the most CCA cold cranking amp batteries

Have been satisfied with their batteries and service,
