Folks this is on a 1964 Ford 2000 gas tractor running on a 12 volt system. I did some disc harrowing today then turned around and scooped some dirt for driveway. Worked for about 2-3 hours and then parked it for lunch. I noticed a bit of yellowish stain on tractor below battery tray so I popped the hood and first thing I noticed was minor gas seepage from where the gas gauge sending unit mounts to tank. I looked at top of battery and it looked wet and assumed at first it was gas. However it appeared to be bubbling from around the battery caps slightly. Plus there was burned plastic smell and my battery appeared to have swelled on the sides and was hot? I wiped the battery off (left black stains on rag) and let it cool. Came back later and now it won't crank. I turn key and her it click once but nothing. Checked battery and meter shows charge is good? I did recently replace long dead gas gauge and sending unit but have run it multiple times since then with no issues. Any ideas of what problem might be? Bad battery? Gas vs battery? Etc? Any advice would be appreciated.
