Small ( breather?) hole above input shaft seal on ford Jubi

Hello, first post here. This past weekend I was pulling an engine on a ford jubilee and was planning on replacing the input shaft seal due to leakage. I also found a small penny sized hole with what looks like baffel in it. In the bottom of the bottom of the bell housing was a small metal disk that fits into the hole. My question is is this a splash shield for the breath? And if so do I angle that slight lip, up and in or out? I was guessing up an in. See pics

That hole is for one of the shift rails and the expansion plug goes in there to prevent transmission oil leaking into the clutch housing.

Thanks for the reply. That makes total sense that the hole is for the upper shift fork shaft. Is this an indication of a larger problem, like excessive end play in the trans, or if it "normal" for it to work out over time?

Thanks, I am not great with that stuff. I didn't know where the photo's had gone. So I have look around for a new plug, I haven't seen one listed. Thinking that maybe a 3/4" frost plug for a cylinder head might work well. I am not totally sure of the diameter, and the tractor is up north. Or maybe just peen the old one a little, use some good sealant and stake it once I have in place? Any thoughts on the best solution, I want it to stay in place once I have it all back together. -Thanks

You're welcome.
I'm not sure if a Welch/frost plug would work there. It may.
When it comes to repairs like that, where if it fails I have to
split the tractor a second time, I'm quite willing to buy the
right parts. Maybe I'm lazy, but it seems worth the money.

I totally agree, do you know where I might find a new one? I haven't found it listed, but I may have missed it. The IT manual I have dosen't show it and in Fig FO47 it isn't even there. I haven't found it on the online diagrams I have found. A part# would be amazing. Though I hope a new one would have more sealing surface than this disk type. That is why I thought it was maybe just a splash deflector.. So if this isnt the vent the only place i can think of that the vent wpuld be is the shifter boot, is that right?

Unfortunately I do not. Maybe a CNH dealer could help if all else
fails. Give it some time though, I'm sure someone here knows.
There's an amazing wealth of knowledge on this forum.
