ford 3000 hydraulic pump question

Hello everyone. Found this great forum with a lot of excellent knowledge and I hoped you all could help me with (hopefully) the last step in my ford 3000 restoration.

Wanted to see if anyone could answer a question I have related to the hydraulic piston pump on a ford 3000 (1965). It started when I went to prime the pump and loosened the priming plug (part 37 on the picture) per the manual. When I did so I had a spring fall. I took the pump apart and the spring that had fallen out was one of parts #42. On the diagram it shows the bearing (43) sitting on the spring (42) with a pin (41) to ensure the bearing stays in the slot all housed within a cage (40).

A few of the cages were bent but the thing that was bizarre is that a few of the pins were missing and the few remaining seemed to be part of the housing (36). I could not remove them. The holes that didn't have pins had no slot for any pins to slide into. Anybody understand why this is? The manual seems to make it show as six identical setups in the cylinders. This is all on the outlet side of the pump. The pump was working before but was a little low on power lifting with the 3pt, but then again the lift cylinder didn't have rings on it (it does now). It seems that without the pins the springs will fall out or the bearings would get pushed too far down.

Any thoughts? I attached a picture of the housing (36) showing where the pins were and were not.

Thanks

Matt

It's been a while since I rebuilt my 2000 pump but IIRC the pins are pressed in. Hard to tell from the picture but do you see the ends of broken pins or holes? The pins limit the travel of the balls and would be hardened so they could break from fatigue (not likely) or idiocy of a PO's work. Probably best to replace the housing. Then put a rebuild kit in for balls, seats, etc. Made a world of difference on mine.

I have seen and done it my self is drill hole then punch broken piece out then braze hole. The broken pieces are in system

Thanks everyone for your help. My welding is only ok so I found the part at a reasonable price and got the rebuild kit too. Looking forward to getting it done and to start painting.

Thanks again for the help.

I got my rebuild kit from this site (Tisco) and found the quality a bit lacking. Mainly the ball cages. I needed to fine-tune the three legs on most of them with needle nose pliers so the balls could move freely. They are soft, not hardened like the originals.
