4500 Ford Backhoe

This has been discussed many times before but here is how I fixed an internal leak in the boom of my backhoe, one of the internal tubes was evidently cracked so being a gas man with having access to some high pressure pipe I made some tabs out of angle iron and welded to the 3/4" hp pipe and then welded to side of the boom, should any of the other 3 lines remaining inside the boom ever leak then I'll do the same on those
I am not one that believes in keeping equipment in original condition when an improvement can be made and that improvement makes for easier repair in the future...

Bought a $30 crow-foot hoping to remove hose in the small inspection hole at bottom of the boom, crow-foot would not fit over the hose so that I could slide it up to flare nut, didn't want to alter or widen the crow-foot so I ordered a cheap $9 box end wrench off of eBay and cut that down and made a crow-foot and narrowed the open end on other half, had to apply heat with small propane torch and flare nut came loose then.

markct,
evidently you didn't read my post clearly, one of the metal tubes internally is bad up in the boom, absolutely no way to repair it, was one reason I got such a good deal on this machine earlier this year. A good operator wouldn't damage hoses outside the boom, new backhoes made today have the hoses/lines on the outside of the boom for easy repair....

Yes, here is a brand new Cat 420F2 I took a picture of at a recent show (sorry it is washed out by sunlight). Anyway I found it interesting that they ran the backhoe's hoses externally up the spine of the boom and in addition rubber hose not tubing.

They are serious diggers. Had the opportunity to use a newer (555) machine and I think the hydraulic power was reduced to stop the
arms from cracking all over the place. You may notice a lot of cracks or patches on your 4500 and I think it is because the power is
more than the structure can take, both front loader and hoe.

I understand the issue and have done the repair myself a few years ago but haven't any pictures, you simply cut and access hole and then a new line can be run inside and hole welded back in, have seen it done neatly to a few other machines, whatever works tho is the name of the game!
