ford 3400 clutch

Hi, I bought a 1967 ford 3400 gas tractor with a stuck clutch. I finally got it split today. The clutch is rusted up, also had a mouse nest in it and a bunch of stuff in the bottom of bell housing. I am have a little trouble finding the same disk and pressure plate. It has a 12 inch disk with 15 splines and a heavy duty 12 inch pressure plate, like shown on the 5000 series in the service manual, figure 11. It has 8 mounting holes and a torsion damped disk. What could I use to replace it? How could I keep the new one from rusting up?

You should be able to get parts from NH or any clutch rebuilder. As for rust, surface rust on the perimeter of the flywheel and pressure plate are not a big issue, however rust between the disc and flywheel/pressure plate is. If you store this thing in high-humidity environments, consider blocking the clutch pedal in the released position during long term storage.

If the tractor sits outside water can get into the bell housing between the steering column and transmission. Dealer sells a gasket that will seal that. Or it's simple enough to make one.
Mouse gets into the bell housing via the timing inspection hole - on the block plate - front, lower, right side of the transmission kinda behind the pan. Make sure the little cover is closed or install one if it's missing. Get an original from a bone yard or easy enough to make one out of a scrap of 16 ga metal and a 1/4" bolt.
The cover and screw is missing on this tractor in the photo.

Hi, Thanks for the good info. I order a reman clutch and pressure plate from https://www.link_disallowed/default.asp. Is the gasket on the steering plate or bell housing? I suppose I could seal the top with RTV. The flywheel is pitted, not sure if I should get it resurfaced. A magnet would take care of that little timing hole, the previous owner may have had the starter out for an extended time.

Another problem is the spark plug boots were chewed by mice and the wells had water in them and the plugs rusted, so the socket doesn't fit on one and the other is so tight I don't want to break it. I managed to change one plug.

It also is idling too lean. I adjusted the mixture screw out all the way and it helped, but is still too lean. I don't hear a vacuum leak. I am thinking I am going to have to take the carb apart.

The steering column is leaking fluid, I'll have to rebuild it with new seals.

The names of competitors tend to be forbidden in these parts... probably why your like won't post.

Honestly, for clutches I tend to go with NH stuff unless I can get a Hy-Capacity quicker or cheaper.... and even then I may use the Hy-Cap pressure plate and OEM disc. NH has reman as well. There are so many clutches for those blasted things that the best I can tell you is to get the unit code off the transmission to determine the year, take your spline count and start digging in the NH parts online or Messicks parts pages and get the correct part number.... then go from there. Google is your friend. Yours likely has the heavy duty clutch, but check CAREFULLY!
Also should replace the pilot and release bearings.
Get the flywheel ground! Don't even think about not doing so if it's pitted or grooved. As far as the rust goes... if you're using it regularly the rusting up shouldn't be an issue...
