Ford NAA Gas Tank

I have a 1954 Ford NAA tractor and was wondering since I have the gas tank off the machine for repairing a leak what color was the gas tank painted. Ford tractor red or ford tractor gray can't tell due to being repainted blue want to go back original.

Thankyou;
Travis

I'm not sure the bottom has surface rust going to take care of that and paint it. There use to be a galvanize paint for repairs been told this anyway don't know haven't looked to see if it's still around.

Thankyou;
Travis

ALL the under hood gas tanks I have seen on the fords be it a 9N or an 801 series and any between where never painted

Ford N series fuel tanks were made of Terneplate, the same material that automotive fuel tanks were made of prior to the advent of plastic.

The were not painted.

They were plated with something like cadmium. Not rough and thick like galvanizing, not aluminized like a muffler, not bare steel which would be all rusty in a few months. Your best bet is silver paint, but not the aluminum type.

Here's an odd answer for you - I don't know what was original.
But, I know if I were to clean it and repair it, I would paint it.
How else will you keep it from rusting again?

Here's one I did on my 640. Basically the same tank.
