Removing crowd cylinder for reseal on 4500 Backhoe

I was wondering if I could get some tips mostly on getting the cylinder drained and removed and getting the piston out . I have done this several times and tried different ways but all seemed like the hard way to do it . I have seem video of man chaining cylinder to a tree and pull piston out with a truck . I have done that except with a come along . One question is , if I have the cylinder vertical on the tractor and fully extended and remove the bottom hose will it get enough air in the port for the oil to drain out the bottom ? I want to do that before removing from tractor .

Depending on the fluid type and condition, it may take several hours to several days for the fluid to drip out on its own. Why not disconnect the rod end once you have the hose disconnected and push the rod back into the cylinder to force the fluid out? Should be able to do that by hand since there won't be any resistance other than the small size of the opening. Might take you 30 or 40 seconds of steady pushing to get the rod to retract, but you don't have to push real hard, just slow and steady.

Doubt that will work. Had to use come along on my 4500 boom cylinder even when it was empty. Getting it back together empty was
even worse.

Thanks for replies , I could not get but about quart of fluid out so I took the cylinder off and took it down to my concrete porch . I have a way to pull it apart there . No fluid would come out until
I got it on the porch and then it started . I had to slide it over so end was hanging off the porch and get a bucket under it . You can not do anything by hand with this cylinder , It takes a 3 ft bar in the eye just to turn the rod . I think they get jammed worse sometimes when the piston seals get really bad . It seems like it gets in a bind between the piston and rod . Mine is the 750 B 4 " cylinder , The 750 c has a 5 " cyl . I bet thats a nightmare . Tomorrow I will use the come a long to pull the piston out.
