Replacement Fuel Tank Question

Morning my friends I hope all is well with you today. Got a question about a replacement fuel tank for my 600. The replacement tank has both the place for the original hookup in the middle or the side hook up which I'm going to use because mine is already like that. How would I go about plugging the other hole and not worrying about leaks? I figure just a pipe plug but what would you guys put on for sealant? I have 3 tractors and they are all down when I need them the most. I'm moving dirt from where I had my pond dug out. First back In the summer my MF 230 oil pump went out and spun a rod bearing. I said well I've got my Ford 3000 to use so I'll rebuild the MF this winter. Then the radiator bites the dust on it. I said ok I'm still alright the 600 has the loader on it and I'm using it most now anyway. The rust in the fuel tank got so bad it will run for 5 minutes and stop everything up. That saying comes to mind If it weren't for bad luck. So ordered the fuel tank yesterday, ordering radiator today and looking up rebuild kits. Old iron can get expensive but I love them! Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Danny, I have had very good luck cleaning rust/sediment/goop from fuel tanks by just siphoning.

Plug should work fine. I used that nice little white tape plumbers use on pipes.
Use sparingly Makes a tight seal. A new tank should solve your problems and
avoids a lot of frustration.

(quoted from post at 09:07:05 10/12/16) If you can siphon a tank clean it wasn't dirty to start with.

How do you figure that? Are you thinking that his rust particles are all stuck together or something so that they are too big for the tube? Like I said it has worked well for me. It could for you too.

Like the others said the plug should be fine. Teflon tape (plumbers tape) the threads should seal it off just fine. Just make sure you wrap the tape in the same direction as the threads so it doesn't unwrap as you twist it in. Rt hand clockwise Three to five wraps is plenty.

Good luck!

Would work great if everything is suspended in the fuel. When I have to clean a tank, most of the crap is heavier than fuel.

I'll stand byy statement, but I'm glad for you and your success.

When I am cleaning a tank whether it is gas or diesel, solid particles or sludge, it is always on the bottom. I work the end of the tube around and just like a vacuum cleaner picking dirt up off the floor it picks up nearly everything that is not attached, and brings it up and out.

For the 601 fuel tank does anyone know the difference between the two models offered. One states may be less capacity than the original and the other states fuel line must be modified.

After years of working on the restoration, a leak was discovered in the gasoline tank and I'm thinking to replace it.
