901 Powermaster lift cylinder question

The lift isn't lifting much. Took side cover off to be able to look while its under a load. The top of the pump is gushing fluid. I'm sure that's not right. Should we pull the pump and check it out or try something else? If we pull the pump what should we be looking for? Thanks Teresa

The pump is bolted to the side of the engine and then has lines that run off of it and back to the 3 point hitch area. So if you have one of the side covers off below the 3 point and you are seeing oil it could be the lift cylinder or a gasket that is bad

Either the tractor model is wrong or
your seeing wrong, the pump isn't in the
belly like an N series, it would be on
the side of the engine driven by the
camshaft. If your seeing fluid gush in
the bottom it could be a broken
passageway or possibly relief valve, I
don't recall if they are in the bottom
like an NAA.

It looks to me like you are calling your lift cylinder your pump, and that you are seeing oil gushing out the top of the lift cylinder. If my assumption is correct, the gushing means that your pump is pumping the oil very well, but that the seal inside the lift cylinder is bad. Before removing the lift cover to replace the seal, lower the lift arms.

as has been said. pump is on the engine.. piston and valve body under the lift cover.. lotsa orings in there.

That is the lift cylinder that you are holding in the pic. The o-ring seal in those is nearly indestructible. They usually last 50-60 years, LOL. Take a good look at the bore. There is frequently rust damage. Check the cam follower pin, they frequently need replacing when the lift cylinder seal does.
