What is causing the three point arms to raise with the lever down? Oh, it is a 541. When warmed up they seem to stay put but speeding up the engine will raise the arms to the top. I believe I have had every valve opened and cleaned. Wandering if the back pressure valve might be in backwards. The shop manual shows a drawing it the valve pointing forward, which it is. Or may be I am missing something in the manifold that connects the lift chest to the center housing? I know some one has been hear before me. Don't use it much but woild like it working right. Thanks for any help!

"The shop manual shows a drawing it the valve pointing forward,...". What does that mean???

Big fingers don't help on these 'puters. Try again! The Ford Shop Manual shows a drawing, not at picture, of the back pressure valve, which appears to be installed pointing forward in the lift chest.. That is the way I found it when it pulled out But I can tell by the use of gasket maker, some one has been there before me. Just kinda looked like maybe it should have been in the opposite direction. Maybe?

Thanks a million for the nice illustration. Yep, the back pressure valve(top of picture)is in, small end toward the spring. Your picture shows the small end opposite the spring. I'll have to pull the check valve seat again today and I think that will fix my problem. Thanks again JMOR
