Hello All;
I am looking at a 1960 Ford 821tractor. A couple questions, if I may.
1. The gas engine is the 172 ci 4 cyl engine. The tractor is painted red and cream color, but the engine is green. It appears to be the original paint. Does anyone out there have an idea of why the engine is green?
2. My second question is the ability to install a proof meter on this 821. The 821tractors does not have any hydraulics, including the usual cam shaft driven hyd pump mounted on the right side of the engine. Is there a way to mount a proofmeter including hour meter, tach, etc.on this 821 tractor.
As always, thank for your knowledge and help

The engine is from another tractor. There is a gearbox available to drive the proofmeter that bolts where the hydraulic pump normally does.

The green color indicates the engine is a special low cost version that is good for only 1,000 hours, so the tractor is worthless. Where is it anyway? Do you have the owner's phone number? I could give him a call and break the bad news to him so that you wouldn't have to feel guilty. Just looking to help.

Probably the engine has been switched out. Might be an industrial engine. Look near the top valve cover for tag or plate. As Scott said gear drive box for proof meter. Don't forget the gasket.

The Ford '820' (821) tractor is listed on TractorHouse, for sale. One other question about the green engine; could this be an industrial engine? The tractor looks all original.

Do you have any additional information on the gearbox to add a profiteer to the Ford 821? When you mention it goes where the usual hyd pump would bolt up to the cam on the right side of the engine, did I get this correct? I see there is simply a plate there with two bolts holding it in place.
Thanks,
