I bought a Ford 801... But is it.

I grew up driving an 800 that I first drove when I was 8 years old. It was given to my Dad and I used to sit on it when I was 3-4 years old and ply with the steering wheel making the front hubs (up on blocks) and I now have kids that I want to teach how to drive a tractor and since the oldest turns 10 next year I started looking for an 800. I bought one today at an auction that seems to have parts off several different tractors. My Dad went with since knows more about them than I do. It is the same as an 861 with the two stage clutch. It has a later rear end. It looks like a power unit engine. I am told the right hood is off a select-o-speed because it has the hole in it for the PTO cable. I have a feeling it may have been an 871 that someone put a five speed transmission and then put a power unit engine in. Either way it seems to, in essence if not in name, be an 861 with a two stage clutch and a five speed. Before I put my son on it next spring I am hoping to find a front bumper/hitch of which I could build one but I prefer to find an original. For now I have one main question. How do I figure out what engine I have? It has the bigger manifold with the 2 inch outlet. I look forward to any commentary and suggestions anyone has.

As for the hood, *I think* the 01 series had the whole for the PTO cable in the hood even if hey weren't select o speeds. My 961 does anyway. Sounds like it will still
be a decent tractor. Post a pic?

(quoted from post at 02:55:51 10/02/16) I grew up driving an 800 that I first drove when I was 8 years old. It was given to my Dad as a non running tractor and I used to sit on it when I was 3-4 years old and play with the steering wheel making the front hubs (up on blocks) go back and forth. I don't know what the $#%#@$%$$ is going on but this thing will not let me edit, upload or do much other than type.

The Edit feature hasn't worked on here for a number of months. It has something to do with there being two different "Views" available, modern and classic, and the 2 views use 2 separate databases, and new posts get put into both, but the edit feature would only allow you to edit one or the other, so they turned it off completely.

Posting pictures is easier if you have an account someplace like photobucket where you can upload them to, and then just put the URL to the picture in between the
tags in your post here.

Post the casting code on the right side of the engine block and someone here should be able to help figure out what it is. The code should have 6015 in it somewhere, and there will be some letters before the 6015, and possibly some letters after as well, but not always, and there may be some wide spaces between groups of characters, so post everything in that area.

You are correct.
When the SOS tractors came out all the hoods got the hole for the pto handle. Those with a crash box were simply plugged.

What year did the select o speed come out?

Dad has a 57 641 without the SOS PTO hole in the hood. This 1960 621 I'm working on the hydraulics has the PTO hole in the hood.
