Ford 4600 Hydraulic Removal

I think I messed up trying to remove the hydraulic manifold and pump from a 1976 ford 4600. I cannot remove it because obviously there are still things connected within the chassis. I have the I and T, but my knowledge with hydraulics is limited. attached you will find two photos of where I am at with the ordeal. Any suggestions from here would be appreciated. It does have to come off at this point, but I am asking based off the pictures where do I go from here? Thank you.

Hi Matt

I am by no means an expert on a Ford 4600 but have helped remove a top cover from a 7700. Is there any way you can hook on (the two bolt holes in top of the cover are ideal) a cherry picker or hoist to gently lift the cover and be able to look under and get your hands in there. I bet there is a control linkage you can disconnect and then away it will go. Others with more knowledge will give clearer help than I can.

Regards Matt from Oz

You say that you have a manual - did you actually read it? You have WAY more apart than you need to.

Start by taking a closer look at the manual. Your main sticking point from what I can see is the tube between the pump and the flow control valve. The book has a very specific procedure for dealing with this tube, and it doesn't involve removing the first two dozen bolts that you can see.

The main problem I see is that you disconnected the lift cylinder from the lift cover.... and now you have the whole bloody linkage loose in there and probably caught on something. When pulling the lift cover you remove the perimeter bolts only and lift it off as an assembly.... and shove the supply tube back down once you get it lifted up a couple inches.
Best suggestion I can make at this point is to get a cherry picker in there and suspend the lift cover from that so that you can get a look at what's left dangling and disconnect it, then pull the lift cylinder out. As Bern said.... you have done WAY more work than you should have.

I see his short says "hey I'm so good..." I can't read the rest but it likely says "...That I don't need the instruction manual" lol. We all make these mistakes, read thru quick and miss a detail that goofs up the works

Thank you for those that commented. We ended up getting everything we needed out and are replacing o-rings. This is a student led project and try as I might to preach reading thoroughly first sometimes students grab a wrench and go before I catch it. This would be my 7th tractor and everyone has its moments that it is a good learning experience for my students about doing your homework before you tear things apart. Thanks again!
