No hydraulic function Ford 801

Ford 801 diesel, added 9 quarts hydraulic oil and there is no action on the 3-pt. Ran it quite a while, even removed the plug on the hyd. pump and dumped oil in..no go.

Also, the dipstick on the side has two ranges marked, a level indicator for the Pedestal (whatever that is), and a hydraulic level on the other side with a reasonable level range, specifying "all cylinders contracted". I used the latter indicator.

As far as I know, it was working before the tractor had a 'rest" of a few years.

Any tricks to get it going or diagnose problems?

Thanks,
C

Very likely the un-loader valve is stuck and when that happens you have no hyds. Only way to fix that is to pull the lift cover and replace the un-loader valve o-ring

The pedestal side is for the front steering pedestal on a row crop tractor.

I thought the dipstick said "all cylinders extended" which means the lift should be up and any remote cylinders fully extended.

With the pipe out the front of the pump, will it pump oil out of the hole while cranking the tractor? If worse comes to worst, will it do it at engine idle? If it does, you have a control stuck in the lift. If it doesn't, you've got pump issues.

Let us know what you find.

Stuck "something" is likely after sitting so long.

Will see if time and repeated trials help, and review parts diagram for R&R of o-ring.

Thanks old, and Larry for direction...will check it out.

Did you run the tractor with with the pump bleeder plug loose or out? Did you get a good flow???

If no flow, you don't have the pump primed. If this is the case, the easy solution is to park the tractor nose down in a ditch and loosen the plug until the bubbles stop. That should get oil to the pump. Be careful if that plug comes out with the tractor running, you might get an oil bath.
