Thanks for putting up with all my questions.. Changing oil this weekend. Have seen everything on the 'net from straight 30 to 10w-30, 10w-40 etc.
I live in Ohio but tractor will never be used in winter.
Thanks

Deffinately go with 15w40 it's a good oil . just make sure your brand carries an S rating as well as C. Very rarely, I have seen some higher end oils not carry an S rating.

There's more to it than viscosity, and aside from a technical discussion with all that entails, an oil like Shell Rotella 15W-40 will perform well and do the job its intended to, which is properly lubricating the engine.

In winter temperatures, the engine may not turn over as fast, but it's still viscous enough for colder temperatures to perform. I've used it for years with excellent results winter and summer.

I used shell 15w40 in my gas engine tractor and dodge diesel truck,

Be sure to buy a quality oil filter, do not go cheap on your oil filter,

Get engine good and hot before you drain the oil, that way u get most of the old dirty oil out to drain out,
