Need help identifying my tractor

Hey everyone,
I just picked up a project tractor. I was told that it is a 3400 industrial with the factory loader and backhoe. After doing some research, I'm not convinced the loader and backhoe are factory. The backhoe is a model 713 and according to tractordata, a factory backhoe should be a 750. Anyways, whether or not they came with it from the factory isn't too important to me, it just peaked my interest on the rest of the story with the tractor.

I need to order a service manual so I can figure out how to put the pieces together (previous owner had the head rebuilt right before he had a heart attack so what I received is a big puzzle with 3 boxes of parts). I started checking serial numbers trying to identify it to make sure I order the correct service manual. For some reason I cannot seem to get any numbers to match what I am finding online, so I am hoping some of you knowledgeable people can help me out.

Looking at the numbers right behind the starter, there are three numbers: 34022G, C152580, 6K25. Do these number mean anything to any of you? I'm guessing the C number is the serial number but the other two numbers do not match any identification webpages examples that I see. Any help would be appreciated!

There's not much difference from an Ag tractor model 3000. It has a heavy cast iron oil pan
and heavy front axle to handle the stress of a front end loader.

nov of 1966 manf date..

3000 series..
utility model,
gas engine,
transmission 540 style pto
4x4 reverser transmission.

Ok, can you tell me how you decoded this or link me to the breakdown? I cannot make sence of any of the numbers. Now, I am not super
knowledgable on ford tractors, parents have always had deeres. What is a 4x4 reverser transmission? This isnt a 4x4 tractor. So this is a 3000
and not a 3400? Or is there a difference? And what is the difference between a utility model and an industrial model? Thanks for your help so
far!

34022G is the model number. Here's a breakdown of how to decode it:
340 at the beginning says it is a 3400
First 2 says it has a gasoline engine
Second 2 says it has trans driven (non-live_ 540 rpm PTO)
G at the end says it has a 4x4 manual reverser transmission.

6K25 is the "Unit Number", which is a code for when it was made.
The 6 at the beginning says it was made in a year ending in a 6, and since the 3400 was only made from 1965 through 1974, the only year in that range that ends in a 6 is 1966.
K designates November (A-Jan., B-Feb. etc, but they skipped I, so J is Sep. and K is Nov.)
25 is the day of the month, so it was made on Noivember 25, 1966.

C152580 is just the serial number. The C at the beginning says that it was made in the plant in the USA. (A would be Antwerp Belgium plant and B would be the Basildon UK plant). C152580 is a 1966 serial number, so that agrees with the Unit Number I described above.

Here is a link to a document that I put together on decoding Ford tractor model numbers:

What is a 4x4 reverser transmission? This isnt a 4x4 tractor.

4x4 manual reversing transmission is a manual transmission that has 2 forward and 2 reverse gears on the main shifter, and hi/low ranges on the shorter secondary shifter which gives you a total of 4 forward and 4 reverse gears.

So this is a 3000 and not a 3400? Or is there a difference?

3000 was a series of tractors and the 3400 was the Utility model within the 3000 series, so your tractor is a 3400, but it is basically the same as the 3000 ag chassis model except that it has a single piece non-adjustable front axle that is heavier duty than the 3 piece adjustable front axle on the ag model so it will stand up better to carrying a full loader bucket.

And what is the difference between a utility model and an industrial model? Thanks for your help so
far!

The first Industrial model in the 3000 series was called the 3500, which was replaced part way through the production run of the 3000 series with the 3550 model. The Industrial models had even heavier duty front axles than the Utility models, and the 3550 also had the heavier duty double reduction rear axle from the 4000 series. The Utility models were really designed to be farm tractors that could handle a loader better than the standard ag chassis models, and the Industrial models were designed to be TLB (tractor-loader-backhoe) tractors doing construction/industrial type work all day long.

Awesome! Thank you everyone for all of your help, it is very much appreciated. Now I know exactly what I have. I'm sure I'll be back as I start putting the old girl back together but hopefully a service manual will help with most of it. Thanks again!

(reply to post at 10:56:31 09/25/16)Hello. Sorry to piggyback off someone else's post, but I to need help identifying my tractor I just picked up. The #s on the engine are: 34022g. As mentioned above, the 2 means gas. I'm confused. Mine is a 3 cylinder diesel.
The # below is: C1372736E20. There appears to be no space between any of them. Don't know if this is supposed to be two separate identifiers.

It does have the loader on the front and box blade and PTO on the rear. The trans # is: C5NN7006.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would like to order a manual and repair the leaky seals.
Thank you. /quote]

Ron - 34022g should be a 3400 with a gas engine, trans driven PTO and 4x4 manual reversing transmission.

6E20 is a Unit Number that says it was built on May 20, 1966.

C137273 is a 1966 serial number.

But those numbers are stamped into the flat spot on the transmission bell housing, so they only tell you about the tractor that the transmission was in when it left the factory.

Since yours has a diesel engine, which doesn't agree with the number stamped into the transmission, the most likely cause for the discrepancy is that either the engine or transmission was swapped out at some point by a previous owner.

(reply to post at 19:08:42 12/01/16) Thanks for the quick response Sean. I'm trying to figure out what repair manual to get. The engine runs good. The previous owner rebuilt the head. The trans seems to be working fine as well. The repairs needed include: steering wheel, leaking ram cylinders for the bucket and rear for the box blade. Leaking rear wheel seals leaking onto the brakes. Need to replace the brakes. Leaking around the control valves in front of the seat that control the rear box blade. Not to mention the engine maintenance. So I'm trying to find out which manuals I need. Any ideas?

Thanks again,
Ron
