4500 oil filter conversion kit

I sure would love to have a screw on filter on my 4500 . Every time I changed the filter I could never stop the rubber seal from leaking . I tried everything , keeping every thing clean an oil free , silicon the seal to the block overnight , silicon the seal to the metal can overnight , do the same with permatex and other things I tried . The seal always slips to the inside enough for a slow leak . I always had to make my own paper gasket instead of the rubber and problem solved . Even so it is a big pain to change the filter . I see on ebay a conversion kit for a little over 50 buck to change to a screw on filter . My question is , isn't that spring and other parts in the old filters something that lets the oil bypass the filter if it becomes clogged and restricted to prevent the engine from damage ? If so I hate to lose that protection . But on the other hand I would be more willing to change the screw on type more often and it should be ok . It seems I remember there is something like that on an auto screw on , I believe the oil pressure relief valve opens and the oil dumps into the oil filter outlet channel. But I don't know if the adapter has that .

The adapter doesn't have the bypass - the filter does. Go with the normal change interval.
Those kits are well worth putting on, IMHO.

The spin on filters it uses have the bypass built into them.
The adapter is well worth the cost, just don't over tighten the mounting bolt and break the adapter like I did on my first one.

I just got one for my 3000 off ebay for $35. Picture doesn't show a rubber adapter to block seal, but it's in the kit.

Thanks ford farmer , I'm glad everyone is happy with the adapter , If I can locate the $ 35 one I will order today .

Thanks Tex , The main reason I had trouble with the rubber seals is the diameter was just a tiny bit more than the space it fits in and a place on the seal would buckle up a little. I figured the pressure from installing the can would make that even out but it never did . I was using a wix filter from napa every time . I guess it didn't occur to me to try another brand .

Yes - that adapter fits '65 and up 3- and 4-cylinder models. I use CarQuest 85775 filters on mine... but any quality filter that crosses to the Ford (New Holland) 300 Dual filter is ok.

No. But I do know that a Motorcraft FL-1A will fit almost every Ford out there from cars to trucks to tractors and on and on.......including the new adapter. I'd venture that if they are that interested in commonality, then the adapters would be the same size also. Send a message to the seller and ask him to measure the diameter. If that fits you should be good to go.

Mine is heavy cast iron. I can't imagine breaking it by over tightening. I'd think the threads would strip first. But I am just speculating, not
experiencing.
