8 volts and starter switch

I have a 2n to which I have added an 8 volt battery. Does an 8 volt battery harm starter switches and/or starters? I just put a new starter switch on the tractor. The starter turned over but did not start the tractor and has not started since that one try. Ideas...

8 volt battery wont harm anything, but they are intended for use in a golf cart, your 6 volt charging system is just that "6 volt". 6 volt generator wont charge an 8 volt battery.

8 volt battery is a band aid fix at best. No way to charge an 8 volt battery that really works well. 6 volt system at best might charge it to 7 volts.

As for it hurting any thing NO WAY many 6 volt tractor have been converted to 12 volts using the same switch and starters etc.

If you have the original 3 brush generator the battery is what regulates the output voltage
of the generator and it should charge the 8 volt battery just fine.

IMHO.. you'd be better off making it work on 6 or go to 12v.

where do you buy a 8v battery charger. not many places.

It is a horrible bandaid fix to the problems that should be addressed otherwise.
