Ford 4600 Steering Problem

I was offered a Ford 4600 today. It wa an estate sale and the son told me that a hired man had hit a tree while brush hogging and that the steering didn't work properly. It wa driven into the shed and parked years ago. He thought that the steering housing was cracked, but we couldn't find any external damage. It had a dead battery, so we didn't try to start it. Overall condition was original paint with normal wear and tear, plenty of dirt from sitting around. Good tires, no loader or other special equipment.

The son offered it to me for $2,500. I have the equipment and talent to remove and replace parts, including splitting the tractor, if necessary. I have a 2N that my grandfather bought new, and have been working on Fords since I was a child. This is probably more tractor than I need, but it seems like a potential good deal.

I'd guess there's internal damage to the steering box. But even if it needs a complete box, that's cheap. I haven't seen a decent 4600 bring less than twice what he's asking... more often 3x.

Don't really need another tractor that size but if it has manual steering I have all of the parts to fix it, if it's a diesel with power steering for that price I'll take a chance on it.
So put me on the list wanting to know where it's at.

I would have said the same thing, but with (OR) as part if his handle, I figured trucking from Oregon to Wisconsin would be too much.
