You guys called it. Hex on pump shaft is almost rounded off. Will catch once in a while spinning it by hand. Looks like they didn't shut it down soon enough #2 rod bearing and journal is pretty rough. Been bored .030 already and wore some. Looks like it will need sleeved back to std. We knew it probably wouldn't look good inside so not a total surprise. Putting a same as new 602 picker on it when it's done so it should be a corn picking son of a gun when it's done
 

They make a .040 over piston for that engine that would save on the cost of sleeving.

Haven't see a 602 in several years, back in March I picked up a nice 601 that hadn't been out of the barn in over 30 years. Haven't tried to run it yet but everything looks good. I'm planning on it replacing my old 601 that's showing a lot of wear and has the bottom of the elevator rusted out.
Would you happen to have a good quartz roll you would be willing to sell, I have a good rubber roll but my quartz roll is about shot.
 

Just seen the picture in your other post, that tractor has wide front axle, do you have the narrow front end pedestal to put under it for using the picker, two roll picker wont mount on a wide front tractor.
 
Yeah we've got a narrow front to put under this tractor. One cylinder is pretty rough
and I don't think it will clean up at .040. Decided since we have it apart just to go
the sleeve route and hopefully stay away from any cylinder wall problems like some of
the 4 cylinder engines have given. Sounds like you got ahold of a nice 601 picker. What
tractor do you run your picker on? I don't have any extra rolls that I know of. We've
got a total of 4 602 pickers and a old style 1 row that we pick and play with so try to
hold on to all the parts we can get. I've got some videos of them running on youtube
under ford9000puller. I think I am going to try to find an epoxy and mix in some quartz
or granite and try to recoat a couple roles and see if that will work

I have seen those hex shafts worn enough
that I replaced the pump to be on the safe
side but never seen one bad enough to stop
turning.
That gasser is likely a 192. If it was a
201 I have a set of standard pistons and
rings I could sell you cheap. They came
out of one of those school tractors.
Might have a couple hours on them.
 
Yea its a 192. Thanks for the offer though I really appreciate it. I'm a Tisco, A&I and Atlantic parts dealer and non of them have the 192 pistons available. Found some other places so should be able to get it together.
 

I have the one dad bought new in 64 but it's completely worn out, we had the only picker in your neighbor hood so it picked 125-150 acres a year thru the 60's and early 70's mounted on a Fordson Dexta.
I have picker brackets on my 4000 and 4000SU along with the brackets that where on the 881 diesel I bought with this picker, mainly like to mount the picker on my 4000 as it's 30" rear tires lifts the picker up higher so the elevator clears a gravity wagon bed better.
We only pick around 10 acres a year to grind for cattle feed and a pull type would be simpler but dad had me running his picker when I was 9 years old, I grew up running a 601 picker, loved running it then and still do today.
 

I don't have any good pistons but should have a couple of good cranks, boreable block and gas heads for a 192 along with some misc stuff. Also have a running 192 diesel off of a late model 3930 I don't need.
