Ford Tractor with Yellow paint under blue

Ford 5610 , blue paint is fading around the fuel cap. Yellow under the blue. Dealer say some Fords had Yellow primer. True or False? Thanks

I have no idea what primer was used. Back in the 70's. The city bought an industrial Ford painted yellow. As time went on blue paint started showing through the yellow.

Might be that it was yellow and someone painted it blue.

I know some red ones (parts) were overpainted blue at the start of the conversion. I had some of them thinking that either that or Ford used red (red-lead primer????) primer I bought a remote adapter to run a Cross single valve remote for my 3000 that was blue over yellow. I bought it from the Ford dealer and it was used. Salesman and I both thought it was previously used on an industrial unit; no biggie. 5600 series in my estimation is getting pretty big for utility usage, like back hoes, so if it isn't just primer, what was it's use in the industrial field?

Could be primer, or maybe your tractor, or part of it, was originally yellow. My 4600 has some yellow showing under the blue on the front axle...but I don't think they used the ag box type front axle on industrials.
They had 5600 equivalent and bigger as utility/industrials. The 755 used a 256 turbo like a 7600, and there was even an industrial version of the 8000 - the 8400.

I can recall numerous municipal sales of backhoes we had as a dealer, being painted the towns or other specified color. We sold 2 in town here, both were standard industrial yellow of the time that were painted orange. The town had those well into the 90's and early 2000's, orange faded but that was about it. We would also re-decal them as well. I still have a workbench that came from the shop, ford blue with black letter decals on it from the period.

My 5610-2 shows yellow under the blue, but bare metal under the yellow, so might be a primer. Not sure, might have been a highway mowing tractor, painted yellow, in an earlier life. I suspect it was always an ag tractor, as it came with the dual hydraulic pumps (prolly had a loader on it) and dual-power high/low.

My '73 4000 started out life as a state highway mower and came painted yellow from the factory with dark blue wheels, front and back, and a dark blue stripe down each side of the hood where the decals would have normally gone. Any place that's had the paint rubbed or chipped is yellow all the way down to the metal, but the stuff underneath is a slightly brighter shade of yellow, but that could be form the stuff on top being faded or because the stuff underneath was a primer, I don't know for sure.

Just sand a small out of sight place down to the metal and see what you have to work thru. The primer is usually pretty obvious, especially from 40 years ago, being pretty much pre air pollution laws. I shot that yellow green zinc chromate, red oxide, light gray, dark gray, and some kind of brown sealer to keep the solvents from lifting the old paint.
