power steerinfg fluid and crancase capacity?

I have a Ford 2000 diesel, 1966 model that a mechanic friend of mine added power steering to about 10 years ago The cylinders have developed a leak and all fluid leaked out. after I get them repaired, what kind of fluid should I use in it? The friend who did the work passed away 9 years ago, so I can't ask him. The pump is off a 4000 diesel if that matters. Also in order to change the filter in the PS pump I will have to remove oil filter for engine and change oil in engine. What is the crankcase capicity? Thanks for any help. If more info is needed let me know. Billy C.

A '66 2000 would have had the earlier style pump with the separate reservoir up above the pump, so if that's what you have there's no need to remove the oil filter to replace the p/s filter. If you have the later style pump with the reservoir integrated into the body of the pump then you can either remove the oil filter and then pull the reservoir casing off of the pump, which only requires disconnecting the return line but can get messy, or you can disconnect both lines and move the generator (or alternator if it's been converted) out of the way and pull the pump off the tractor, which allows you to empty the reservoir through the fill hole and change the filter on the bench.

Most folks use the same 134D UTF in the power steering system that they use in the 3 point and transmission, makes it simpler to just jeep one fluid on hand.

Thanks for the answer. I do have the newer style pump, but older style canister engine oil filter. Since oil needs changing anyway I'll remove the oil filter and the return line on the PS pump. Doesn't look like a real big job. As far as engine oil capacity that's no big deal. I'll do just like I have been doing--pour oil in until it reaches "full" mark on dipstick.

Sorry I neglected the crankcase capacity in my first reply. It should be 7 quarts without changing the filter, and 8 quarts with a filter change.

Sorry - make that 6 without a filter change and 7 with a filter change. My fingers don't do what my brain tells them to when I'm at the keyboard sometimes.
