external hydraulic hose fittings

I'm rebuilding my 5000 and I need to replace the coupling hoses, on the control valve they have the square banjo fitting and hose in one, is there a way to avoid the high cost of getting the hoses from the dealer? I already have 1/2" hydraulic hoses, I was hoping that I could just get some universal 90 degree fittings, anyone ever do that here? thanks

Weatherhead part number 06UL06 is the banjo style crimp fitting. Any retailer that makes hydraulic hose with Weatherhead U series or U series compatible fittings can make hoses for you.

Go with Aeroquip fittings. Unlike crimp-on fittings, Aeroquip fittings are reusable.

When I worked in the Mines as a Top Millwright / Senior Underground Mine Maintenance Mechanic, I always carried an assortment of Aeroquip fittings, couplings, and adapters in my tool-box. When a machine broke down due to a damaged Hydraulic line, I could have that line repaired and the machine operating again, usually in about 30 minutes. Otherwise, the hose would have to be removed and taken over 10 miles through underground tunnels to the Shaft Station, sent to the Surface Warehouse where a new hose would be made, and sent back down over 1000 feet underground to be reinstalled on the machine - which would normally take 3 to 4 HOURS, meanwhile that piece of Production equipment and it's Operator are sitting idle awaiting that new hose.

I was finally able to convince the Company to switch all of their Hoses and Fittings over to Aeroquip. Yes, they are more expensive than crimp-on but they are far more versatile and repairs could be made on-the-spot. Production time lost is Money lost.

Me, too. I agree, likely not that prohibitively expensive. My Weatherhead stuff is less than WH or Gates at two local auto parts stores.

Thanks for all the replies, I will have to call the dealer tomorrow, and check into the other options, thanks

I contacted my local dealer today and they wanted 68 for each hose! I found some 90 degree fittings that fit so I'm going that route, each fitting was 6 dollars and hose was 11 dollars, my kind of deal! lol thanks

I found 90 degree 3/8 fittings, they are not banjo but should work just fine, I paid 6 bucks each, I hope that its not a have to be banjo only thing lol

Banjo fittings have straight threads, the 3/8 90's will have tapered pipe threads so you'll need adapter fittings in the valve to screw the 90's into.
The adapters and 90's will stick the hoses out away from the valve but as long as the hoses don't interfere with other parts of the tractor or the controls it'll be fine.
The banjo fittings keep the hoses close to the valve for better clearance

I simply change them to ORB fittings with a 90... all the banjos are.... simply a modified orb fitting. And... ford used the orb on the connector end in most cases, but aftermarket connectors are more common in nptf fittings so I usually convert as the nptf hoses are easier to find... so an orb to nptf 90 at the control and everything else is national pipe thread.
