Hi all, I'm having trouble identifying my ford 5000, I've been looking up the code meanings but am confused about the whole thing, lol
I have a picture of the stamp behind the starter, the first line is what isn't making sence to me, any help would be great, thanks[/img]

I think you need to have a dozen or more
posts to post a photo using the forum
software. But you can use your own html
and that will work.
Have you checked out the oaktree Ford
tractor page?
That might help you.

the top line is 4m7c the middle line is 51014c and the last line is c114173-5k1 that first line is messing me up then the 5k1 as well, thanks

thanks, yes I looked at that but the top line is messing me up it has 4m7c middle line has 51014c and bottom line has c114173-5k1 thanks

The top line is the transmission build date of December 1964 and after the serial# starting with the letter C is the tractor final assembly build date code of October 1965. Around 1967 they moved the transmission build date code to the other side of the transmission and put the tractor final assembly date code on its own line instead of at the end of the serial#.

51014c is the model number for a 5000 general purpose Ag chassis with a diesel engine, independent 540 rpm PTO and an 8 speed transmission.

What Scott has said about the two date codes is correct. The 4m7c is the assembly date for the transmission, which was December 7, 1964, and 5k1 is the build date of the tractor, which was October 1, 1965.

c114173 is the serial number, which is a late 1965 serial number and agrees with the build date of the tractor.
