1964 Ford 2000 fuel shutoff frustration

Folks I've recently had to replace my gas tank due to a leak. I'd hope to replace the fuel shutoff valve with one that goes to the center of the tank (old one was a NAA type w/sediment bowl at the rear right side of tank). Old one I had to run rubber fuel line around backside then up left side of tractor to carb. However I've gone through two different center fuel shutoff valves (has two mounting screws and O ring) but both leaked from the seal I assume because it coming from between the shutoff valve and tank. I've tried replacing the O ring, gasket material and Gasolia sealant and still leaks?
Any idea what I'm doing wrong or how to fix it?
I wish they had one that screwed in like the side mount type? Would it be to much of a stretch to run line diagonal across engine to carb with brake line/fuel hose?
 
Use the correct O ring, be certain that it is properly positioned, and do not over tighten the bolts.

If you have added goop to the mounting surfaces, all must be thoroughly removed.

Those shut-offs are very frustrating. I and many others have had them leak right out of the box. However, from what I read here, leaking from between the valve housing and the tank is far less common, than a leak from the stem. Have you removed the tank and closely checked the mating surface of the tank for a deformity?
 
well I'd hope it would come with the correct O ring and I did try a couple others with same results. As far as deformity to tank or shut off nothing jumps out at me but I'm obviously not the most mechanically friendly feller to tell ? Will try to get pics of both and let folks look at it. However at this point looking to go with side screw in mount and run line over top of engine to carb on other side.
 
If you are good at fabricating lines get a lever shut off ( C0NN9285A )from a 2000/4000 4cyl. The port for the fuel line is a different size than the screw type, buy the bolt pattern is the same.
 
Whether the proper O ring was supplied with the valve likely depends upon from where the valve was supplied.

I have changed many valves and have had no issues of fuel leakage between the tank and valve so long as I used the proper O ring (I buy them from CNH), it is properly positioned, and there is no tank or valve deformation due to over tightening of the bolts or use of a too thick O ring.

Fuel leakage around the valve stem is an entirely different and well known issue.

Whatever you do don't get a lever type! They are very likely to leak from around the rod, right out of the box.
 
Assuming your leak is between the tank and valve, the only explanation would be some sort of damage to the tank surface, or a misplaced hole in the tank relative to the bolt holes. You don't say if your replacement tank is used or a new aftermarket tank. If it's new, it's quite possible the leak is due to a manufacturing mistake.
 
The tank is new. I've considered the possible issue being with the new tank. Of course now after messing with it, gas leak, taking valve on/off/on/off trying to figure issue the paint coating around mount location has peeled/bubbled. I've sanded down the surface just enough to get what's left of the paint to provide smooth surface. At this point I'm probably just gonna seal center hole, put sediment bowl shut off valve it screws in) to right rear of tank and run fuel line across top of engine to carb.
 
Should have gone with the side mount sediment bowl type. I've had several of the lever valve leak new like several here. It doesn't take many junk valve to add up to a new tank. I would go back to the side mount sediment bowl type if it where me.
 
You will have to run hard line under tank you need gravity to pull fuel to carb. The hard line is used sow the line doesn't leak fuel and burn the tractor down ask me how I know this (very exiting)!
 
I recently replaced the tank and fuel valve on a 641.The first
valve leaked out the screw. The second valve does not completely
shut off.

I took the first valve a part and found the internal o-ring cut in
to.

If I ever replace a tank again. I will use a strainer in the NAA
outlet and bend a New steel line.
