I have a ford golden jubilee4 speed. my question is 1st gear seems too fast am I better off switching to a 5 speed from am 800 series or a sherman over under

A 5-speed won't fit... unless you get the rear end with
it. A Sherman will work, unless you need to use the
pto at the same time. The Sherman will underdrive
the pto as well.

(quoted from post at 22:14:06 08/17/16) Get the hydraulic manifold that runs between the pump and the transmission case, too.
Would the pump or casing be needed too?
I thought the Jube lines had a different hookup plate.
I have not tried to swap them between the two so I am not sure.
The hydraulic hookup is certainly different as you pointed out.

NAA speed in 1st @ pto speed is about 3.5 mph. Compare that to a 651 in 1st @ pto speed which is about 2.3 mph.
Goodloser, you will never make a tiller tractor out of it.
If you need one for tilling either find a Select O Speed or trade up for a newer Ford with an 8 speed - like a 3000.

1st in a 5-speed is -still- too fast for a rototiller. To
use a tiller effectively, you need a Select-O-Speed or
an 8-speed. I used my cousin's tiller this spring
behind my 4600. 1st was plenty fast, and it's about
half the speed of 1st on a 5-speed.
