Flow control valve.
You will never use it.
Looks like you bought the second worst
possible 4000. A Select O Speed, gasser.
The worst possible 4000 is a Row Crop, SOS,
gasser.
Have fun with it.

Flow control valve limits the speed of movement of the 3 point lift arms. Turning it clockwise speeds it up and counter-clockwise slows it down.

OK UD,
How did you see it is an SOS?

I thought the SOS on the 1000 series tractors were pretty good if still working. Most of the bugs were worked out by then weren't they? What is your concern? Are you overly worrying a new poster?

Worst is relative. It could have been a Massey or even worse a AC

John

John,
I was kidding him.
His is only the second worst.
I have the Worst possible 4000.
4200 RC, gasser, SOS. And a NF to boot
:)
But I'm happy to own it.
Teddy, your's is a great tractor and you
will like it.

(quoted from post at 22:08:25 08/16/16) Doesn't the flange edge of the transmission top cover also give it away as being an S-O-S ?

Yup, it does. I wasn't aware that the traction disconnect had been moved to the right side on thousand series tractors, however.

That's why I love this site. Learn something every day.

The pre-1965 4 cylinder 2000 & 4000 series had it on the right side like the '01 series. It was when they came out with the completely new tractors in 1965 (3 cylinder 2000/3000/4000 & 4 cylinder 5000 series) that it moved to the right side.
