Popularity of Ford Dexta

My buddy came across a 4 cyl diesel Dexta in pieces in an old shop. The
engine is out of the tractor, and the head is off . He can get all of it
for scrap price , but is it worth the trouble to gather up the parts and
haul them home for resale ? I'm thinking there are hardly any around , he
could wait along time to find a buyer ....

Sounds like a Fordson Major.

The Dexta is a three cylinder.

Neither are particular common in the US.

Exactly. And of the few tractors less popular than a Dexta, the Major would be among them.

If it's a four cylinder Dexta, it's not a diesel. They are quite collectable, and many are shipped
back to England. They showed up in some cold countries, such as Canada, because they started easier.
Engine parts are fully available, because it's essentially the same engine used in TEA20 Fergusons and some Massey 35's. Starter is on opposite side.

I am repeating what has already been said, I have a dexta bought second hand by my late father 52 years ago, and it has a 3 cylinder perkins engine.. could the dexta you are referring to had another engine fitted??

We also had a gasoline Dexta. Powered by a 4 cylinder, wet sleeve, Standard engine. It was a very smooth running little tractor. It's biggest fault was heavy steering and lack of fully live hydraulics...

Thanks for all the replies , I'm going to get with my friend and double check the model and engine. I know its a diesel , because we discussed using the pump on another of his tractors . It's in Riverside, Ca. I'll get back with more info ...
