Hello all, new member her and I need your help.
I was given the option of purchasing a Ford Model C4022B which dates it to 1974. The tractor is equipped with a bucket and it comes with a set of chisels, a discs, scraper and shredder and it has new tires.
Now I know nothing about tractors, last having driven one about 47 years ago but fortunately the owner's manual is in tip top shape for a 42 year old book so I can slowly learn the ins and outs.
The hydraulic hoses need to be replaced and I also noticed that the owner sprays what I think is ether into the air intake in order to start it right away. Can you tell me what might keep it from starting in the normal way?
The asking price is $6000.00. Will you share your thoughts and your yes and no with me please. Also, I only have 30 acres to work but I need to keep the weeds down and also turn the soil every so often.
Thanks

What model is the tractor, how many hours on the meter, if he has to spray it there's a problem, ask him why he sprayed it.
Could be a weak battery or not charging properly, injection pump getting weak needing rebuilt or engines worn out with low compression needing a major overhaul.
We need more info and pics would help, you need to ask questions about it's overall condition, engine, clutch, lift, hydraulics, steering, ect.
You said it has a bucket, I'm guessing it has a loader which accelerates front axle wear so that needs to be checked also.

C4022B should be a 3400 with gas engine, trans PTO and 6 speed transmission. If it is a gasser, then needing starter fluid to start quickly, while still a problem, might not be as bad of a problem as with a diesel. It might just need a carburetor rebuild.

If it's a diesel it has bad compression if
it needs ether to start.
Though that is a very good model tractor
a loader on a tractor makes it hard to use
for every thing else.
If 50% or more of your use for it involves
loader work you can live with it. If less
than 50% get a regular tractor and a
backblade, rear scoop and boom pole to
replace the loader and rent a skid steer
on occasion if you need a loader.
For $6K that tractor should need pretty
much nothing - just put it to work.
If it is a 3400 as Sean says its ag sister
is a 3000 which is also a very good model
though not as good for loader work because
of its lighter front end. Hold out for one
with 8 speed trans, live pto and power
steering. You should be able to find a
good, clean one for $4-$5K.
