960 Lift height

Went and looked at what was advertised as a 961 diesel and when looking a little further, it was actually stamped 960. Someone must of switched the tin before the current owner bought it. He was surprised that it was. I believe he didn't really know. Anyway, tractor is in decent shape. Started right up, ran thru all the gears and PTO spins. Only thing from giving him a yea or a nay is the 3. pt height when full up. When all the way down, center of ball is 8 1/2". When all the way up, it only goes to 24". Looks kind of low but not sure. Anyone have any idea? I looked in the service manual and couldn't find anything. It moves smoothly. Everything else seems fine that I can see. Comes with a set of chains. Original air cleaner is gone. $3900
Opinions?

I would agree with the others, 961 with a 960 tranny.
When you checked the height, did you check it in both
draft and position control mode? Might make a difference.

Priced high for my area but this isn't your first rodeo in your area.
It looks to have the original anti-sway bars as well as the
correct long drop drawbar. If you would post or send me
pictures of those anti-sway bars I would be interested in
seeing if that's what the brackets I have actually are.

I believe that IS the early (first) air cleaner for a diesel. It also appears to have a early two bladed cooling fan. You might check the build dates on some of the components. Lift chest , axle housings etc. The cam follower pin in the hyd lift chest comes to mind on the three point problem.

Could I get one of you guys to measure and get the actual height of the balls of the 3 point in the lower position and upper position of a row crop? Thanks for the info on tranny. Still a 961 motor. Thank you!

Ditto what the others said. all points to a swapped trans.

Also.. check lift height in draft mode.

In the end, if position control height is low.. you know it will need a cam pin and maybee cam welding and grinding. not a big
deal.

On my 960 in position control mode measuring the non-
adjustable arm, center of the ball opening is at 12 inches
when lowered and 33 1/2 inches when fully lifted.
I don't know if that's where they should be, just where they are.
