Got the 961

Thanks to Royse for pushing me to buy this, at first glance I didn't think it was worth it, and now so glad I didn't pass it up. Seller had a lot of people trying to buy but he held for me.

So driving home this old tractor that has been in a barn for 10 years, the points ain't good and the carb was awful. Should have given that more thought before beginning a 10 mile drive, Lol. Got about 4 miles, had to run on choke, the engine was getting pretty warm, the day was also very warm, Lucky for me I threw a tow strap in the truck along with some other things. ;) And the brakes work on this thing, so I still have a good bumper on my truck.

Pics are going really slow tonight so hopefully more tomorrow.

Try the pic again. Also if anyone has a NF for it I'd consider buying it, the wide front on this one is a little messed up but fixable.

I know a guy who fixes those carbs............. ;)
Running on choke "may" have been caused by the points.
The points are easily cleaned and re-gapped.
If they are cheap points replace them with quality ones.

It also may have been caused simply by old gas.
Hopefully it is low enough to drain the old and put fresh in.

Holler at me if you want a hand with it or anything.
I feel terrible about pushing you so hard and leaving bruises! LOL

Cool!
I know you've wanted one of those.
You should have no problem finding someone who wants to swap front ends - even if that one needs some work.

Nice tractor,

If you are going to use it and have hill sides to mow, I would keep the wide front,

However, I always liked the narrow fronts when cultivating as they turn so short

Great looking tractors, when properly painted in full
I call it "war bonnet colors"

Nice machine, if you're like me, you'll love it ( I have a 961). Mine is set up as a wide front like yours but I got a NF pedestal for it from a salvage yard and you can change it over in about an hour. If you can find a NF for it (shouldn't be too hard) it would be good to keep the WF so you can change it back and forth. Good luck with it! -Will

Tracto-man, I wouldn't get rid of the ride front , instead I would buy the narrow front-end that you want and rebuild the wide front, as it maybe hard to find years down the road.

Front wheels are tipped in. still works okay tho. Guy said they hit a stump or something but I still don't quite get how that made this happen. I'll try to remember to take a pic next time I go out.

Ran it some today after some carb work and sanding the points and it did pretty well.

"Front wheels are tipped in."

Tipped in at the top, or turned in at the front?
Pretty common to have them toed in at the front as SG said.
Not a bad fix usually.

Tipped in at the top could be as simple as bearings.
I would jack it up and check to see if the wheels move.
