Ive changes filter in pump and blead pressure line.help, thanks rick

Under the hood should be a sticker, post us the unit date code, and the model number and we can tell you everything about it.
If the sticker is gone, the numbers were also stamped into the bell housing on the flat pad just behind and above the starter.

There were 2 different power assist steering systems on the 3 cylinder 4000 tractors.

From 1965 through March of 1970 they had an external steering cylinder running along the left side of the tractor and the control valve was inside the cylinder body, so the only lines were from the pump/reservoir to the cylinder and back.

Starting on April 1, 1970 they switched to a system with the cylinder and control valve inside the steering column itself and the only lines were from the pump to the steering column and back.

There were also two different power steering pumps used at different times.

From 1965 through September of 1968 they used a pump that had a separate reservoir that was mounted up above the pump under the hood.

From September 1, 1968 onwards they used a pump that had the reservoir integrated into the body of the pump.

Knowing which type of system (external cylinder ore cylinder in the steering column) and which type of pump (external reservoir or integrated reservoir) would help us help you with more specific suggestions.

There's no need to bleed anything in the power steering system. If it is working properly then simply turning the steering from full left to full right and back a few times will bleed everything.

If there's no visible leaks and the fluid is staying full in the reservoir, and the power assist steering has no power, then there could be a few causes. The pump itself could be worn to where it is not producing enough pressure. The relief valve in the pump could be stuck open. The cylinder could be leaking internally past the piston. The control valve could be leaking internally. There could be something blocking a line or a port that is not allowing the fluid to flow.

thanks I will try to find those numbers . The pump is under the generator, bracket, you have to take the bracket bolts out to change the filter in the pump.It has a cap on it to ck fluid on it.

these are some number I found on the flat pad above starter 2J20 and blow it was 3915303 can you tell me more about what yr it might be

ok its been decided its a 1972 modle, and not enough pressure coming out of power steering pump. With pressre side off at cylinder only shoots out about 6 inches of fluid. Now heres my question, will a pump off a 6600 ford work they look alike.the 6600 has a busted housing thought we could use my housing, does anyone know if this will work? thank you.Rick

Yes, the pump off of a 6600 should work fine The late 4000 system and the 6600 system both used pumps with 1100 psi relief valves.
