5000 gas stops

I was using the tractor in very hot weather and it just quit, like it ran out of gas, I thought it was vapor lock. I let it cool off and it started right up and ran for about another 15 minutes and did the same thing, I let it cool off again and got it in the shed. Now it runs for about a minute then quits, I have started it several times and it quits after about a minute every time. I don't think its vapor lock, fuel pump? carb float?

The first thing I'd do is check for adequate fuel out of the tank. I've seen many, many plugged screens in the bottom of the fuel tank on those old Fords. To check, simply remove the fuel line from the shutoff valve and make sure you have a nice stream.

Check for a good spark at the time that the engine dies. Many a good carburetor has been messed up by folks assuming the problem is fuel related when it is in fact the electrical system.

Your symptoms sound like a failing coil to me. First has problems after it runs long enough to get hot, then it has problems after shorter and shorter amount of time until it won't producer a spark even when stone cold.

I agree.
Always, always check your spark First.
Verify that you have a bright, bluish white
spark that will jump at least 1/4". Short or
yellowish spark will not do. Requires NO
tools to pull a plug wire and check.
Only then go on to fuel.
