Ford 850 Hyd pump quandry

Hi All: So, we bought a tractor. Seller was trying to sell it as an early 4000 but the serial number had 850 stamped above it. The tractor came with a vane type hyd pump which could lift it's arms but that's about all. I found a seller in Florida willing to sell me a rotary pump and manifold for $600 incl shipping. Time has passed as we waited for the primer and paint to dry and yesterday (Saturday) we got ready to install the pump and manifold. Pump and manifold went together without a hitch and we mounted the assembly to the tractor. Pump mount bolts were run in about 1/2 way but when we went to connect the lower manifold we noticed a problem. There is a gap of approximately 1". We tried loosening manifold/pump bolts most of the way and we could get the lower manifold bolts started. We tried tightening all bolts a bit at a time but it just wasn't happening. I know Soundguy has a trunk full of knowledge on tractors but I'm wondering if anyone has seen this before? Is there an alternate manifold that would work? Short of blowing this tractor up I have no idea of what to do! Any and all help appreciated!!

Hi. No, I dont think thats possible. The manifold wont mount the other way but if it could then the other end would be halfway up the side of the tractor. Hint: We tried it but thanks for the idea. I can only think of one way to make it fit but Im no expert on heating and stretching a manifold.

I don't know what has happened or changed to cause your problem but any decent machine shop can make you a spacer with holes and counterbores for O rings to get you up and going. Longer bolts should tie it all together.

the way I look at the photo it looks like the manifold is bent it looks like its off plane I have a good one if you need a replacement.
I'm in northern WV

Hi xring, sounds like a plan. I have a call in to the person that sold it to me. I want to learn if he has one that isnt bent or deformed before I do much of anything. In case you have the best option for me, I can be reached by email at

Thanks for the offer! Be well.

I came up with two manifolds for the piston style pump and also the NAA piston pump looks like the same bolt pattern but uses different type of manifold. Along with the NAA pump there's three different pump numbers.
Call the person you got them from and see if their willing to help straighten to problem out.

Hi Destroked, I think youre right but the seller hasnt returned my call yet. The manifold aligns perfectly but the gap has me believing that it was bent a bit on both ends where it curves at the necks. Hope the seller calls soon and I appreciate the info that you and others have given me. Be well.

The parts book shows two manifolds for the piston pump, one for tractors before serial number 14257 and
one for tractors after that serial.
