I have a 1970 ford 4000 with a loader 19-529 the right hydraulic cylinder is leaking like a
sieve. I am going to attempt to repair it myself but I need to find a seal kit and maybe a
video to help me along...any advice would be appreciated.

19-529 is a 730 series loader. The part number for the lift cylinder repair kit should be 251165. You should be able to get that kit at any new Holland dealer, but it is a bit pricey at around $68.00. Might be cheaper to take the cylinder to your local hydraulics shop and have them match the seals with generic parts.

I contacted some of the local hydraulic repair companies and i couldn't get a decent
price estimate ...most said there were a lot of variables and they couldn't give me a
good estimate....one said $1000 worst case scenario. ..I could buy a new one for
that...any idea what it should cost?

I just had a 730 lift cyl repaired at a local hydraulic shop - below is a list of the parts (just to give you an idea) they charged me $168 but told me that it would have been usually around $100 except they had a bugger getting the end nut off. They told me next time to just give them this parts list and I could do it myself. Around these parts (Central Texas) a drilling supply shop is usually the best price and they will sometimes do it while you wait.

1 - 568-113 $1.07
1 - 568-226 $1.39
1 - S7S-226 $2.04
1 - AN-17 $2.93
1 - U2S-1-SO-SQB $7.63
2 - U2S-1-SO-37B $8.50

Total $32.06

I doubt that you could find an exact replacement as the original cylinders are no longer available, part number D8NNL905EA. But the price from New Holland back when they were still available was around $1400.00 a piece. You could probably find a replacement cylinder that is "close enough" in terms of bore, stroke, length and mounting dimensions, but if you do I would recommend buying a pair so the two sides match exactly. A good place to look for inexpensive "close enough" replacement cylinders is surpluscenter.com.

Personally I would check the rod on your existing cylinder to make sure that it is nice and smooth with no nicks, scratches or rust that might damage the new seals, and if the rod is in good shape I would take it to the local hydraulics shop and have them do it, as part of their price should include bench testing it afterwards to be sure it's not going to leak. If the rod is in bad shape then I would go to surpluscenter.com and get a pair of "close enough" cylinders.

I got a Freeman loader to put on my '73 4000 that had badly rusted cylinder rods all the way around several years ago. It was missing the control valve and the hard lines were rusted as well. I went to surpluscenter.com and got replacement cylinders, hoses to replace all of the hard lines, and a joystick style control valve with float, plus a variety of elbow and swivel fittings to make everything go together and it cost me less than $600.00 for everything.

Thanks for the Information I think I will try changing the seals myself...if I mess up I can
always just take it to a shop and they can fix my mistake... I'll let you know how it goes.
