  • Looking at a 8240 sle 92or 93 model dealer says tractor will move but trans won't shift they think it needs a new computer they say owner spent 3000 to dertermine it was computer problem it has the digital dash If this is true was thinking the trans is what the computer controls. thinking that there could be something else wrong other than computer I already own one and have no problems from it for 9000 hrs Was wondering if anyone on here could give me any other reasons this would happen have not looked at codes that are being thrown if any don't want to clue the dealer in on any fixs if possible but the deere dealer wants rid of it. Any suggestions

If it moves but won't shift, I'd be suspecting something with the up/down shift buttons.

Computers don't often fail, but since you have another one just like it, why don't you take yours out, sneak it into the dealership under the guise of another test drive, and try it out?

As for not looking at codes, why not? Sometimes they can tell you a lot.

Would not have to sneak it in they are wanting rid of it But my dash is analog the disabled tractor is full digital mine won't work on it already thought of that plus I have no trouble with mine and don't want to run the risk of messing something up Was wondering of any other cause of this happening such as clutches/packs out of calibration it has 4 of them or presure switches bad. Have heard of a certain valve going bad on these Want to make sure these are good before I buy the computer for it

The transmission controller isn't within the instrument cluster, it's bolted to the RH fender under the EDC control panel.

Could be seals on the powershift clutch packs which are inside the transmission. It could also be one of the solenoids that controls the clutch packs. these valves are on the inside of a cover on the right side.
