Hi all any ideas as how to discourage a Darn mouse that's decided that the top of the radiator / filler cap is the ideal place to make a nest, I've removed a nest twice now last one being today I sprayed the top of the radiator front of the gas tank and inside the front grill area with Walmarts version of WD40 but am wondering if something else is more effective?

Deisel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). It's urea based catalyst fluid for modern diesel engines that's made from cat urine. the smell of that should scare any mouse off, except maybe Mighty Mouse.

ow! Somebody has a lot of cats!

Boy that would give all the animal shelters a way to subsidize there operations.
But alas DEF is not made from urine but rather
What is Def made out of?
Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is made from a high purity urea solution. Urea is produced synthetically from ammonia and carbon dioxide (CO2). Urea is found in every day US products such as hair conditioner, cosmetics, adhesives.

Well if you where closer to me I would be happy to give you a few cats to help with your problem. I almost never have a mouse problem but then I do have a cat problems as in to many of them

Apparently your tractor sits for a spell. When you know its going to sit put a box of decon in there. I use that in my big garage. works well. if you have a mouse trap bait it and sit it on top of the hood. they will find it.

Dryer sheets will work. I had to park my 4630 outside near the wood pile and before I got it, there was a really large mouse nest behind the instrument cluster, on top of the fuel tank. Though I cleaned it thoroughly, there must be scent that lingers, and mice have an unbelievable sense of smell. I've kept a few voles for years, they love unsalted pistachios or cashews and can tell if you are nearby and snacking on those, they come right over and wait, then will fight over them if they each don;t get one. Everything they do involves scent. Peppermint oil they also hate.

Thanks all for the replies it only sits for a week between mowing yea I've got to get the mouse food out for the little devils, I know they leave a sent trail that's why I was hoping the spray lube would interrupt it we'll see

Been awhile but have a store.

Not surprising, as the federales seem to eliminate everything that works well.

If mice are a real problem this is the way to go.
I've got two of them and they work.
I used plastic coke bottles with a little ring of peanut butter on it.
Record so far is 11 in one two week period.
Good thing is anti freeze is like embalming fluid. Even after 2 weeks in it there was no smell.

Let me tell you about my Ford 640 mouse problem.

I had a carryall on the back of my tractor and, happily, I harvested a whitetail deer and walked back up to the house to get the tractor to haul it out. When I started the tractor it was well after sunset . . . and I had no headlights. So I used my LED headlamp strap and a flashlight ad got it back.

With the deer offloaded I noticed a blue wire hanging loose that ran under the cowl. I looked under and saw a big nest of chicken feathers and grass a mouse had tucked up beside the gas tank. And than, like a dummy, I ran my fingers along the wire towards the grill . . . right through the path of the fan blades in my tractor that lacks a fan shield. ZING!

Immediate pain. I look st my hand and my right ring finger tip is at a 90 degree angle. Then blood. Then PAIN! " Oh honey, will you drive me in to the hospital?"

Happily the nice doctor was able to reattach everything (I lopped 1/2" of the bone off but it mended back on fine). My fingernail is whole but "odd" and it is still a bit numb for sensation on the finger pad. All in all I lucked out. Had to learn to shoot my bow left handed for a year but I went back to right handed with no problems.

Get a barn cat.
