Is it possible to find a 5200 SOS tractor? I have a 67' 6000 I use to rake hay and would love to find a SOS row crop tractor to help out a bit. Would love to own a 7000 row crop, but dont think the SOS was an option. The SOS tranny works great in hay making. Was there many SOS 5200 made? How about the 4200 SOS? Just thinking and throwing ideas around. Do Have a 4020 PS and love it , but would like some more blue on the farm.

There are no production numbers available that I m aware of for the individual models within the series, or even among all of the series made concurrently. They made the 3 cylinder 2000, 3000 & 4000 series at the same time as the 4 cylinder 4000 & 7000 series, and each tractor that left the assembly line had the next available serial number no matter which individual series (200, 3000, 4000 5000, or 7000) or individual model (4100, 4200, 5200, 5200, etc.) it was, so there is no way to know how many 4200 or 5200 models were made, or how many of them had an S-O-S transmission.

I'm sure there are a number of 5200 S-O-S tractors still out there, but what the actual number is I cannot say, and I am guessing that of the ones that are out there and still running, the majority of owners like what they have and do not plan on selling them anytime soon. The only thing I can suggest is that you keep watch on your local craigslist, machinefinder, ebay, and a number of other internet sales sites to find one that will hopefully pop up for sale near you.

Al,
It's kind of a specialized, if not uncommon tractor. I think the hard part will be to find one with the SOS.
Searchtempest.com is probably your best bet.
You set your zip code, distance you are willing to travel, etc and let it search all the craigslists in that area.
I don't know where you are located but I did a search for Ford 5000 row crop. I set it to search for up to 1500 miles from KC MO and found a few 5200s but it looks like they are 8 speeds or they don't specify which transmission they have.
Click on the link below.
If you learned how to use the site (it's pretty easy)
You could just do that search a couple/few times a week and probably eventually find one.
Judging by the posts I've seen here in the last few years people are starting to appreciate the 42/5200s more.
I think they have considerable cool factor to them.
Photo is of my own 4200. I call it the worst possible tractor - RC,NF,SOS,Gasser - with bad, backwards tires. It does run good though.

Both the 4200 and 5200 were available with the SOS, but the 8-speed was more common. They do show up for sale from time to time, you'll just have to wait and watch and be willing to travel or buy sight-unseen. You're right about the 7000/7200 - the SOS wasn't available. But Dual Power was. That is another very good option for a haying tractor.

SOS works great for mowing, raking , square baling but not so good round baling.
Dual Power is good anywhere.
If I had to chose between a 5000 SOS or 7000 DP it would be the 7000, they did make some 5000's with DP but their hard to find that are for sale. 2 in my area but not for sale.
