Hydraulic oil for Ford 720 loader

Hi gang,

It's been a while since I've been on here. I have a question for my brother-in-law. He has an early 4000 Industrial
with a 720 loader. The loader has been off for a while because the tractor engine was getting a rebuild. He's
getting the loader back up and operational, but needs hydraulic oil for it. It's completely empty now. What spec
should he look for?

I know that originally, the loader frame acted as the reservoir, but this one has had a separate tank added behind
the seat for the loader oil and it's plumbed from there. How do you tell when you have enough oil? Does the loader
hydraulic system need to be bled as it's filled and tested?

Thanks! He would have posted his questions but his internet is down. I'll forward him all answers.

Hey Jim, nice to hear from you!
I've been wondering how the move was working out.

I can't give you specifics on your model loader.
I run the same M2C134D that the rest of the tractor
takes in my loader. It has a separate reservoir also.
No need to bleed mine, air escapes with use.

I did notice that the cap on my reservoir is a breather.
Like the oil fill breather cap on an N tractor.
If I filled it with the cylinders extended, it may push
fluid out when I retract them. With my limited knowledge
of hydraulics, I would think that was the full mark! ;)
