I've got a real problem, hope someone can help. I have a ford 600 diesel,I don't know what year it is, can you tell me what &where to look for some numbers or something to give me a clue. I would also like to know if the fuel injectors are removable & able to put back. There does not seem to have anything holding them in.any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. tom

They never made a 600 series tractor with a diesel engine. The diesels were introduced with the '01 series which were the ones made next after the hundred series.

The fuel injectors on the 601 series had two tabs sticking out the sides at the base with holes in them that had bolts going through the holes holding them in place.

If the injectors that you are looking at don't have any visible bolts holding them down then it's probably not a 601 series either.

Or do you mean that it's a x600, like a 2600, 3600 or 4600? Those should have ears with holes on the injector bodies as well, but instead of bolts they used studs and nuts.

Click on the link below to get to John Smith's "Identifying old Ford Tractors" web page. That covers all of the models made prior to 1965. Read through that and look at the pictures to see where the model numbers and serial numbers were stamped on them. If your tractor looks more like the one at the very bottom of that web page then it is a later model tractor made after 1964 and the model number and serial number will be on a flat spot on the transmission bell housing on the right side just above and aft of the starter.

It could be a 601 series and your looking at where the lines go on out side. The injectors are in the head under the valve cover, you have to take the valve cover off to see them. There's an adapter that sticks thru the head connecting the line to the inj.
Model and serial numbers are on a flat spot on the transmission behind the starter and beside the battery box. On many diesel models battery acid has dripped onto that location an eaten away the numbers

thanks for the information. I do not know what year it is & the old owner who gave it to me did not know much about it. All I really know is the emblem on the front is the best looking thing on the tractor & it has a big shiny 600 on it. thanks again for the info. I almost forgot the number behind the starter is 227.

post a pic, as well as the casting number on the block,

sheet metal decals and emblems are not gospel, sounds like you might have a 144/172 diesel prior series.

59-64 for year model.
