Ford 2000 4cyl gas 5 speed leaking oil around shifter

I just bought an early 60s model Ford 2000. It is leaking oil from around the shifter. I have read some forums stating it could be the hydraulic line leaking inside the transmission. In most the post that i have read the individuals were having problems with their 3 point. I'm not having any problems with mine as of yet. Could the leak be from something else or is it probably the hydraulic line? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Oil leaking from the shifter is due to excess oil in the transmission.

Unless someone badly overfilled the transmission, this is almost certainly due to corrosion damage to the hydraulic pressure line inside the transmission.

Is the hydraulic sump low? If not, most likely the PO knew of the problem and over filled the hydraulic sump before sale.

Drain the transmission down to the proper lever and monitor transmission and hydraulic sump oil levels to see if oil is being transferred from the hydraulic sump to the transmission.

I jumped the gun on the first one I got hold of. I had the ich to see what the deal was with those tubes, Its not always the tubes tho its a pattern that may lead you to think its a tube issue.

After some talk with the customer this one leaks into the trans not running over night,,, Hum,,, The deal was the hydraulic sump fill is higher than the trans sump the bearings were worn along with seals that did not seal the sump from each other. Over night they equalized allowing a overfill condition of the transmission. Its not possible for the trans sump to completely fill from excessive oil unless it was being pumped in faster than it could drain. The top shaft does not use a seal between the sections the excessive oil evidently will drain back into the hydraulic sump.

Don't fall for the trap it should have a symptom that will lead you in the direction you need to go...
