Well... when we unloaded after show last week tractor was grumpy. Belching, smoking, and trying to die. Barely made it to the shed. Ran decent when loaded on trailer but ran through hard rain on way home. Took carb apart cleaned real good. Took gas tank off cleaned real good ( was about a pint of rust in there) ran new 1/4 inch metal brake line as gas line. Was copper -rubber-in line filter -rubber-copper. Put it all back together. Idles smooth no smoke. Give it throttle and it wants to die. Drove 200 ft backfired a few times. Gave up for the day. Any ideas? Help!!

Oh. And cleaned plugs. Was sooty black. Checked gaps. One thing we learned at show, tractor has a tsx 765 carb on it. That is from the 134 ci engine. Some claim not an issue. But if I got a rebuild kit for a 960 tractor then it's most likely wrong?? I know now to take carb with me to make sure we get right parts.
Also with timing light I only show about 17 degrees of advance at full throttle. What should it be? Thanks

Timing should be: 4 degrees @ 400-475 rpm
24 degrees @ 2000/2200rpm
I can remember that there is a 13 degree advance but I don't recall the exact rpm.
