Transmission swap?

Can I swap a 661 transmission into my 860? They appear to be the same but I want to be sure before I tackle such a project.

From what I understand yes they will swap but the 661 transmission maybe bit lighter as far as how strong he gears are and with the bigger engine it may not hold up to rough usage

I don't know where old gets the idea that the 601 series 5 speed was lighter built than the 800 series. As far as I can see Ford only made two versions of the 5 speed transmission. The only difference in the two was the live PTO or the transmission PTO. There was never a light 5 speed versus a heavier one.

Look at the difference in your pedals. If the output shafts have different splines they slip right out and swap them.

The serial number has to be below 14267 on the 661 for them to interchange. The brake and clutch pedals pivot points are located in different positions.

I knew something was not the same since it has been talked about more then once in the 16 plus years I have been on Y-T.
I know A/C liked to install a bigger engine on some of there models and had transmission problem due to that
