ford engine

Does any one know what old ford cars had 4 cylinder engines that use the same ignition parts that are on the ford 100 series ford tractors. I have a ford 901. I don't have tractors stores up here but lots of parts stores for cars. But everyone here don't, won't or can't look up stuff. If you don't know model year engine transmission etc they can't help. In the old days all lot of stuff stayed the same. I posted this in the tractor forum and one recommend I post the question here, where ford are the subject. Makes sense to me. I hope I explained it right. I have a NH 1046 bale wagon the used the same engine as the 1967 Ford F100 PU truck.

I buy almost all my tractor engine stuff form my Local O'Reilly's auto parts store. Cannot tell you part number but most any good parts store should have or be able to get things like point rotor cap plugs etc.

In those days, the only four cylinder Ford cars and trucks were made in either England or Germany.
Doubt they have any of those in stock anymore. The tractor engine was similar to the Ford Six,
except shortened by two cylinders. The points, rotor, and condenser may be okay. Cap wouldn't.
Jeep and VW distributors have been modified to fit many applications. Also from Wisconsin V4 engines in old swathers or combines.

The Ford Pinto car was first American four cylinder late model. In the first two years it used the English Kent engine. May have used their distributer as well.

Another approach would be to try a v8 distributer, with half of the wires grounded out.

a 901 is not a 100 series tractor. It is an 01 series. Actually there never was a 100 series to my knowledge. There was an 00 series. Most parts but not all, will be the same, however.

You didn't tell us what parts you need but buy quality parts.
Here are some numbers that may help.
Have your parts store cross them.

Points:
Blue Streak # FD-8081X (don't go without the x)
Echlin (NAPA) # CS753

Condensor:
NAPA #FA66
Standard Ignition # FD-75
Standard Ignition Blue Streak # FD75X (Premium)

Rotor:
NAPA # FA67
Standard Ignition # FD-108

Distributor Cap:
NAPA # FA352
Standard Ignition # FD-128

Furd didn't make a 4 banger until the fall of '70, so anything before that is industrial/marine stuff. Best you can probably do is take your parts into a parts store on a Tuesday afternoon and start going thru the boxes and try to match them up with something on the shelf. That's what I did 40 years ago for obsolete parts....no money for the catalog to list all the possible interchanges, so you get to do it the hard way.

Thank you for that, Royse. I just it "print" and will keep it with my manual.

Why do you want a store anyway? You must have a little way to drive. You get there, order the part, then go back in a week to pick it up. You order on line it takes a week and you save a lot of time and gas money.

The self propelled NH Bale Wagons that I remember seeing of that era had the 300 cu. in. 6 cyl Ford truck engine as used in 66 Ford pickups.

Funny you should mention that.
My '79 F350 with a 300 6 cyl has a jeep distributor in it. Works fine.
You just have to buy the correct parts when needed.

after reading all of your inputs I went to O'Reilly's and found the right guy. All the other times I have asked about these strange parts no one knew what to do, so I ask again today and the right manager was there. He said there was no cat or computer but he could call and find out. took about a half an hour but they can get the parts shipped in for me. Very little farming up here so not much call for such stuff. So I think they skip that part of there training. plus The youngsters behind the counter don't seem to care much. I've been getting stuff out of catalogs but the shipping to Alaska cost more than the parts. I think my problem is fixed. Thanks for every ones input.

Ya it does help to get the right person or train the person. I have had a dealer account with O'Reilly's for over 25 years now and most of the people working there have changed many times in that 25 years. Shoot I walk in the store and I am greeted by name

You're quite welcome, although I can't take credit for it.
I have gathered a big list of what all the other forum members
have put together over the years. They have shared it and I
am merely re-sharing their hard work. I hope it helps.

I learned many many years ago when you could not find the right part by using the year etc of something the best thing you could do was take the old part in with you and match it up. I also have a Ford 1 ton wit ha 300 in it. I just wish I could find the brake parts I need for it but it being a fleet truck I have yet to find parts that match up to it
