The original subject was "Re: Ford Holley Carb.".
I've got a 3cyl gas 4000 that I'm rebuilding the carb on. It's got the Holley carb, and I think I've been having problems with the accelerator pump. I got the tractor from my father, and he wasn't too careful about running non-ethanol gas in it. Already I've noticed the "fine sand" looking grit in the carb. It's experiencing surging when I let off the clutch. I had suspected it was governor problems, but after exhausting that to no end and it still surging I'm now thinking it's the accelerator pump.
I've got a dumb question though-- what is the check ball in the accelerator pump? On mine it's hard to tell if they're there and just really froze up or it's plugs. Here's a pic of the accelerator pump stand. I labeled all of the ports "plugs". Is 3 the check ball you guys are referring to?
Thanks for the help.
