6000 sos inching pedal

is there a way to adjust the inching pedal so I stop doing wheelies when I take off with a hay bale behind me? I didn't really see anything in the book. I slow idle way down but no matter how slow I try to go with the pedal it goes to fast and up in the air my front end goes. heck of a ride though..

ya I need to add some weight. thought if there was a way to adjust the inching pedal would be nice. if I start in 4th and then shift to 5th it does it as well, and if I start in 5th at low rpm it's not as bad. one of those querks of an sos I guess.
 
good question. son worked on it in college last winter. I'm not sure what he put in to tell you the truth. best find that out.
 
Its just the nature of the beast. Every select o speed we have is hard to take off smoothly. 4th to 5th is a big jump as well in them all. Still wouldn't trade them for anything. The oil shouldn't make any difference. We've tried a couple different ones an seem to be fine. A guy who I call a select o speed expert told me he just uses the cheap 303 oil his local farm and home store sells.
 
I disagree strongly.

303 may work if it is equivalent with 134D but there are lots of oils that will not work properly.

I'd say this guy knows more about select o speeds than about anybody left. I asked him what oil he ran in the ones he has and works on and that is what he told me. I would assume it had the 134 equivalent but he said worrying about the high dollar specific oils wasn't worth the trouble.
 
Again, there are lots of oils that will not work properly in an S-O-S. That's why I asked the original poster.

Try 90W and see what happens.

I'm sorry I assumed somebody wouldn't put 90 w in one. I'm sure it wouldn't work but that wasn't the point of my comment. I was saying that it doesn't have to be the highest priced best stuff on the market like some think it needs to be. I assumed it had a hydraulic type oil in it and that wouldn't affect the normal nature of the select o speed. Just trying to save the guy some money.

Kind of like anytime someone has a problem with a select o speed on here people say to change the filter. When the mechanic my dad worked with at the ford dealer for years who was one of the best out there would throw the filter away anytime he was in there and they all worked fine

Assumptions can be dangerous . . . and yours is! I know someone that put 80W in an SOS and then wondered why it couldn't be stopped in the wintertime.

Furthermore, 303 fluid was a JD spec. Mot that I know does not meet the old ford M2C41 spec.

Then lastly, there is no such thing as high priced oil, if it's good quality and meets the spec for whatever app one has. Lubrication makes up about 1% of the cost of operation of any piece of motorized equipment! Repairs make up way more than that. So you figure which expense you'd rather have. As they say, "You can pay me now, or you can PAY me later."
 
just a note.

the oils commonly labeled as '303' oils today aren't the same as the old jd 303 sold 'back when'.

Most of them are an economy oil, some of them list the specs they meet ( like 134 ), but many of them do not list specs and just say 'old tractor'.

And yeah.. I'd agree. get an oil that meets or exceedes the spec.
 
Excuse me for passing on what a guy who has
been around more select o speeds than probably
anybody on here told me. I asked him what oil he
used and that is what he said he like to run and
hasn't had any problems.

Sorry I Assumed that if his son had the confidence
to work on it that he would have used a hydraulic
type oil and not gear oil. My original point was that
they are hard to ease on takeoff and 4th to 5th is
always a big jump. We've got 6 6000 and 10 other
select o speeds a I know what he's talking about on
his two issues
