Have a Ford 3000 tractor, gas engine and power steering. Tractor has 6 speed trans.
Has serial# C392180. Just curious about size due 6spd trans. Any way to be sure what
I have?

There should be a model number (and unit number) near the serial number. A 3000 will start with a 3 or C; a 2000 will start with a 2 or B.

Realized after I posted that, that only later models had the 6-speed, so yours should have a B for a 2000 or C for a 3000.

Sure you don't have a couple more gears there? I have a '65 3000 and I thought I had a 6 speed but one day I was fooling around and shoved the shift lever hard over to the right and up and wala....found another gear x hi-lo = 8 speed.

The serial number can start with A, B, or C, depending on where it was built.(Antwerp, Basildon, or U.S.) The model number could start with B , C, D, E, or F, depending on if it was a 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, or 7000.

The serial number says that it is a 1973 tractor so the model number would definitely start with a B or a C.

(quoted from post at 00:14:58 07/07/16) Are you sure about that? I thought C indicates US built and B was UK. I have a 72 2000, 6-speed and the serial starts C3.

Follow along or you will get lost.

The original poster (peachfarm) said his serial number started with a C. Later, an entirely different poster (Benj R) said that he had a 1965 UK built tractor that has a 6 speed, but he didn't mention his serial number at all.

2000 and 3000 are the same "size" tractor. They only difference is that the 3000 had a few more hp, and also had a flow control valve in the 3 point hydraulics that the 2000 didn't. Both models were available with 4, 6, 8, and 10 speed transmissions. As the others have said, the model number should be near where you found the serial number. With a 6 speed and a gas engine, the only unknown would be the second to last character which would say whether it has trans or live PTO. The model number should be one of the following:

B1022B - 2000 gasser with 6 speed and trans PTO
B1023B - 2000 gasser with 6 speed and live PTO
C1022B - 3000 gasser with 6 speed and trans PTO
C1023B - 3000 gasser with 6 speed and live PTO
