Thousand series alternator conversion kit

I bought one, haven't installed it yet, got it on the shelf waiting for the vreg or genny to die on one of my non-converted
tractors.

But for $125 delivered for the kit with brackets and all...that's cheap

Don't know anything about the guy, but I had the kit in a few days and it looks good.

Just thought if somebody was on the fence about doing a conversion, it might be the time.

Alternator conversion kit

Pretty good deal, I put one of these on my 5000 last month, works good but I think the tack is reading a little fast. Need to take my hand held tach and check tach reading to 540 pto speed. Had to reclock the back case to 6:00 to get the wire plug away from the head, also needed a size longer belt but over all it's a decent conversion kit.

I have a 63 2000 gen and a 65 3000 alt and the tachs are opposite in rotation. Does the kit address that?

63 2000 tach is driven by the hydraulic pump and doesn't need a tach drive kit on the alternator. Look for a conversion kit without tach drive, it will be cheaper.
The kit listed will work on the 3000.

A '63 2000 is a 4 cylinder and the tach should be driven off of the hydraulic pump.

The '65 3000 would have had a generator form the factory, not an alternator, and the tach would have been driven off of the rear of the generator and would have spun clockwise. Depends on what was done to add a tach drive when the generator was replaced with the alternator would determine which way the tach cable would spin and whether the tach was replaced with a counter-clockwisw rotating tach at that point in time.

Fred

No bad on your part. The ebay listing tells the story of what tractor's that alternator kit is for. We were replying to the question about the '63 2000 vs. the '65 3000.

That kit used to be close to 350 the last time I bought one... so it's obviously come down in price a bunch.
It will work fine on any 65 and up Ford. Will probably work on the older ones as well except you don't use the tach drive on them.

Now that you mention it, it does have the gen, not alternator.....too many over the years, loose track.

Yes it is driven off the rear of the gen.

Yeah, think the last one I bought was $225 just for the alternator, no brackets.

Just struck me as a pretty good deal.

OOPS. In retrospect, the alternator engine I remember must have been my 4600, not the 3000. So, with that said, rotation direction on the tractor in question probably is not a worry and I withdraw my concern.

_600 series tach is driven off the oil pump gear with a cable adapter located under the oil filter, the tach does turn the opposite direction from earlier generator driven tachs.
These tractors can also be converted with the cheaper non tach drive Delco alternators.

That is a good price on a kit. I have converted several over but have never used a kit. Back in the 80's they didn't have kits. You had to make your own.Buy an alternator and flat stock then start sawing.

The old Chevy trucks with the generator mounted on the left exhaust manifold were the worst.

I just finished a John Deere B. This was my first two cylinder. The bracket took a little longer.
