3000 power steering problem

I had power steering fluid leaking out the top of steering column on my 1973 Ford 3000.
I removed the upper steering column and found the upper trust bearing pre-load spring washer had broken apart. I continued to remove the control valve spool assembly (all the plungers and springs fell out before I could note were they all came from) also noticed the upper thrust bearing lock-nut was loose on shaft. After inspection I found one of the plunger springs was broken off shorter than the other two. I continued disassembly but the bottom race of the lower thrust bearing would not slide off the shaft because of scoring right below the lock-nut threads. As I proceeded to remove the steering adapter housing, the roller pins fell out of the upper shaft bearing. I decided at this point I needed to replace the shaft and rebuild the steering column and gearbox.
I was able to get all the seals and bearings from the upper column and adapter housing removed but I having some trouble getting the lower shaft roller pin bearing removed from the bottom of the gearbox. It looks as though the lower shaft roller pin bearing has bottomed out against the bottom of the gear box casting.
If any one has any advice or ideas on how to pull that lower roller pin bearing or remove both the steering side gears with their bushings and seals from the gear box, I would greatly appreciate the help.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

I will refer to part numbers in the photo above.
It sounds like you have several things going on at the same time. Rather uncommon. But not to worry. That entire box is simple to rebuild and parts are available from the dealer, albeit expensive.
First of all, I don't understand what you mean by this: "lower thrust bearing would not slide off the shaft because of scoring right below the lock-nut threads."
Do you mean the upper thrust bearing #19 I don't see how scoring could cause a problem here. The upper and lower thrust bearings fit very loosely on the steering shaft.
Explain that if you will.
To remove the sector shafts #39, #40 first remove the outer caps #46. Then take a soft faced hammer and tap on the threaded end of the sector shaft to drive the bushing hub out #47. Now you can remove the steering shaft #6 and inspect/replace that lower bearing #4. Those lower bearings rarely go bad. But I suppose one could. To replace it to will have to dig it out in pieces. Use the steering shaft #6 and soft faced hammer to drive the new one in.
Go ahead and replace the sector shaft seals #51 while you're at it.
To reinstall the upper lock nut and washer #40, 41 and to "time" the sector gears refer to your I&T FO-31 manual.
To get all the springs and plungers reinstalled correctly click on the link below for an old thread on this.
PS, if the surface where the upper seal #35 rides is grooved or masticated buy a speedi sleeve to repair it. Your CNH dealer should have the sleeve along with any other parts you need. You will need to find a piece of tubing the right diameter to Gently drive the sleeve on.
And replace both orings #33 too.
If you do a good rehab on this box you can expect to get another 40 years of trouble free service from it.
Holler if you need more help. Or send me your phone number and a good time to call. I will help you if I can.
Sorry this got so long.

Thank you for your help.
Yes the lower thrust bearing race (part #19 on the left side of the diagram. I realize this should come off easily but the shaft(part#6) was damaged and had a raised lip just below the locknut threads, possibly caused by the upper thrust bearing race not having the the spring washer in place. I am planning on replacing the shaft anyway, I was just listing the problems I found while disassembling the steering column. I was also able to get the steering shaft out without removing the selector shafts by rotating the selector shaft gears until the flat side of the forward gear was facing the the steering shaft nut.
I have tried hammering with a 3 pound sledge on the threaded end of the selector shaft(part#40) with nut installed to protect the threads but couldn't get it to budge. Should I use a press to get them them out?

I have a quick question.
What direction does the lower seal #14 go in open/spring side up or closed/smooth side up?
Im assuming I should pack the roler pin bearings (#13 & #4) with grease or is this gearbox desinged to be filled with oil?

Thanks,
Robert
